Selected from batches that are not earmarked for the Grand Vin, this Second Wine of Château Lascombes has undeniable charm and offers real drinking pleasure. This 2019 vintage is composed of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. On the nose, look for blackberry, cinnamon and cocoa beans. The palate is savory and juicy character. The finish is fruity and racy.
Pretty violets and roses on the nose with sweet blackcurrant fruit - delicate and approachable. Density and plushness here, the tannins are quite ripe and make their presence known. This has quite a serious and spicy core, liquorice attacks the mid-palate and lingers into the long finish. Bramble fruit, juicy initial impact then quite dense, dry tannins. Perfumed quality to the fruit. Needs time.
The 2019 Chevalier de Lascombes is a rich, heady wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Ripe black cherry, plum, spice, chocolate and tobacco are dialed up. This is an especially flamboyant style, but it works well.
