Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte red 2021 is extremely fine with silky tannins and beautiful aromas and flavors of Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium-bodied, with notes of blackcurrant, licorice and dark chocolate. A great finesse and a good structure. Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte is crafted and aged with the same care as the estate’s Grand Vin. From the vineyard to the cellar, the entire winemaking process is exactly the same.
Dark chocolate, liquorice and slate with pretty notes of rose and violet that softly edge the nose. The raspberry, strawberry and blueberry fruit has a touch of sharpness, though I love the edges of chalk and slate minerality that give it real direction and linearity with little movement up or down as the flavours travel across the palate. All the elements are well delivered, elegant and really in focus. This has excellent attention to detail and lots going on. A characterful pick in 2021.
The 2021 Le Petit Haut Lafitte Blanc dazzles with its crystalline precision and tension. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint and white pepper all lend striking freshness and nuance throughout. Time in the glass brings out the wine's layers and natural concentration. Readers will find a taut, saline white full of character.
Medium-bodied with fine, tight tannins and a just-ripe core of black fruit. Some dark clove and black pepper, too. Fresh and focused. 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot. From organically grown grapes.
